Experience the changing landscapes of Morocco on this 4 days tour from Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga. The journey travels from the Middle Atlas Mountains to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi before continuing through Todra Gorge, Dades Valley, Ouarzazate and the High Atlas.
Unlike the faster three-day route, this itinerary includes a complete day around Merzouga. You will have time to explore the desert tracks, visit Khamlia, meet local nomadic families, discover the Mifis mining area and taste the traditional Madfouna speciality before riding a camel to your Sahara camp.
The tour includes one night in a Merzouga hotel, one night in an Erg Chebbi desert camp and one night in the Dades Valley. It finishes with a visit to the UNESCO-listed Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou before arriving in Marrakech.

Your 4 days tour from Fes to Marrakech begins with collection from your hotel, riad, Fes airport or the closest point accessible by vehicle.
Your first stop is Ifrane and its Middle Atlas surroundings. The town is known for its alpine-style buildings, gardens and cooler mountain climate. After a short walk, continue towards the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques may be seen in their natural environment.
Afterwards, A panoramic stop overlooking the Ziz Valley reveals an extensive palm oasis surrounded by dry mountains and traditional villages.
Furthermore, prepare for your ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes for approximately 45 minutes to one hour, stopping on a high dune to watch the sunset. A 4×4 transfer is available for travellers who prefer not to ride a camel.
After arriving at the camp, settle into your private tent and enjoy dinner. Traditional music may be organized around the campfire when weather conditions permit.

After breakfast, begin a complete 4×4 exploration around Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes. This day is what makes the four-day itinerary noticeably different from the faster Fes-to-Marrakech route.
Follow the desert tracks beyond the main village towards areas where nomadic families continue to live with their animals. You may share tea and learn how families adapt to water availability, seasonal weather and grazing conditions.
The next stop is Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa musical traditions. Meet local musicians, listen to their distinctive rhythms and learn about the community’s cultural heritage.
Lunch can include Madfouna, a round bread stuffed with meat, vegetables, herbs and spices. A vegetarian filling can normally be prepared when requested in advance. Although visitors sometimes call it Berber pizza, Madfouna is a traditional dish with its own preparation and local history.
Eventually, in the evening, you can check in to your hotel near the dunes. However, you can enjoy other exciting activities like dirt bikes, ATVs, Dune buggies, sandboarding or even horse riding in the Sahara.

After breakfast, start the journey to Dades Valley and leave the desert with lifetime memories.
First of all, we will stop in Rissani, a historically important trading town in the Tafilalet region. On market days, the town turns into a huge traditional market where locals get their groceries for a week or more.
Afterwards, continue into Todra Gorge, where you can leave the vehicle and walk beside the river beneath the high canyon walls. The walk is easy, does not require hiking equipment and provides a comfortable break during the journey.
Finally, continue towards Boumalne Dades. Depending on the hotel location, stop at the rock formations commonly called the Monkey Fingers or travel further into the gorge to see its winding mountain road.

After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and travel towards Kelaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses. The region is known for producing rose water and other cosmetic products, particularly around the spring harvest. At Imagine Morocco, shopping stops remain optional.
Following the city of Ouarzazate, we continue to the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important example of traditional earthen architecture. You will have time to walk through its passages and climb towards the upper viewpoint.
After lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains through Tizi n’Tichka Pass. At the end of the day, we arrive in Marrakech and end the tour.
