You can experience one of Morocco’s four imperial cities on a day trip from Fes to Volubilis, seeing its prominent sights such as Lahdim Square (a large public square in Meknes), Bab Mansour (a monumental gate), the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail (the tomb of the ruler Moulay Ismail), and Sahrij Swani (Basin Swani—a historic water reservoir).
We will continue our day excursion from Fes to the breathtaking Roman ruins of Volubilis, an ancient Roman city located in a lush agricultural region in the north of the kingdom and one of Morocco’s top archaeological sites.
We will go to Moulay Idriss Zerhoun (a sacred town named after the founder of the Idrisid dynasty), the first significant Islamic king of Morocco. It is a small imperial town situated atop the two peaks of Mount Zerhoun (a mountain range in northern Morocco).
