7 days desert tour from Marrakech

7 days Marrakech Sahara tour is a way to discover some of Morocco’s south special destinations. At first, you cross the High Atlas mountains from Marrakech and enjoy its lovely views. Then, you move to explore the fascinating Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou. Besides, you will discover the Atlas studios of Ouarzazate.

Secondly, you will pass through Skoura to arrive at Boumalne dades to spend the night.

On the following day, you will drive via Tinghir and Todgha Gorges to arrive at Merzouga and spend the night in a local Riad/hotel.

On the third day, you will explore some of Merzouga’s special attractions. For instance, the village of Khamlia, the nomads, and so many more interesting places.

On the fourth day of our Marrakech Sahara Tour, , you will drive through Errachidia, to arrive at Ziz valley. The latter is one of Morocco’s big dates sources. You will take some pictures and then move via Tizi N Tlghamt to arrive at Midelt where you will spend the night.

On the fifth day, we will move toward Fes and explore it.

The 7 days desert tour from Marrakech starts with a pick up from your accommodation or airport in Marrakech. A tour around some of Morocco’s special destinations. The first one for today will be the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou.

On the way, you are going to experience the beauty of atlas mountains via the road of Tizi N’Tishka, with an altitude of 2260m. Offering you charming views. Valleys, oasis, mountains, and Berber villages. Furthermore, we will stop by different interesting places, so you can get the chance to take some great pictures.

Arriving at the world heritage site the Kasbah Ait ben Haddou. This place belongs to one of the most important families between the 16th and 17th centuries, “the Glaoui’s family”. Also, a place that attracted many filmmakers. They shot some movies there such as ” Jesus of Nazareth “, “Gladiator 1 & 2”, “Game of thrones”. Lunch is planned for you to enjoy it in this historical area.

Then after a quiet stay, we will resume our tour through the road of thousand Kasbahs. In which we will cross Skoura oasis and the valley of roses.

Eventually, in the evening you will check in to your hotel in Dades Valley.

We will head over to a special destination today, the magnificent Merzouga. Passing by Tinghir, to visit Todra gorges the highest narrowest spectacular gorges in Morocco. A unique place. Recognized around the world as one of the most spectacular canyons in the world.

Then after restoring, we will continue towards our unique destination, the Sahara Desert. When arrived at Merzouga you will ride the camels through the dunes of Erg Chebbi. At final, in a memorable experience on the top of the high dunes, you will admire the spectacular sunset in the middle of the Sahara.

Eventually, the camels will take you to our traditional well-equipped camp. There you will enjoy a traditional dinner accompanied by Berber drums music show around a campfire in a friendly mood under the shining stars.

7 days desert tour from Marrakech‘s third day starts with a pick up from the camp. Today you are going to discover the desert life and get deeper into the nomadic bedouin life of this part of Morocco. The first thing you are going to see is the National Auto Museum. It is a museum of old 4WD cars owned by a Qatari person who established similar museums across the globe.

Secondly, you can enjoy yourself some spiritual music in a Berber village they call “Khamlia" data-wplink-url-error="true">Khamlia” “. This small village is where most of the people that immigrated from the other African countries like Gabon, Sudan and Mali. You will be able to try their tea and also listen to their spiritual “Gnaoua” music.

Afterwards, you will hit an off-road through the Desert Valley to stop at M’Fis. It is an old French abandoned village which they call the ghost village. It is where the locals are still working on mining the Kohl and Baryte. 

Thirdly, your driver again will take you this time to discover the life of nomads. These people are about 20km from the Algerian Borders, you will get to know all the parts of their tents, also where they cook and what they use for transportation.

At lunchtime, you can try the Berber pizza, which is the traditional meal for all nomads. After lunch, you will drive back to the main town to see the desert oasis, where the agriculture lands are. Besides, you will see the water systems in the area.

Eventually, our staff will take you to the hotel where you will relax and spend the night.

The fourth day of our Marrakech Sahara tour begins after a calm relaxing night, we recommend you to wake up early so you will not miss a spectacular desert sunrise.

half an hour drive will drop us a Rissani town. It is one of the most important towns in the southeast of the kingdom as it is the birthplace of the Alaouit dynasty that is ruling Morocco now. It is also famous for its huge traditional market that takes place three days a week. 

After that, we resume the tour by a scenic drive  through the High Atlas Mountains. You will have the chance to see the beautiful views of Ziz gorges and the valley.

Don’t miss the chance to capture some of your best shots for Morocco’s grand canyon. Next, you will pass through the Tizi Ntlghamt mountain pass where the most beautiful views are. After about 40min you’ll arrive to Midelt.

The city locates between the High and Middle Atlas Mountains serving as the main producer of apple fruit in the country. As well as, different mines in the outskirts of the town including: Gypsum, Quartz and Vanadinite.

In the end, we will spend the night here in a local riad.

The fifth day of our 7 days Marrakech Sahara desert tour itinerary starts with crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains.

You will be able to clearly see the transition from dry flat landscapes of the south to the green lush lands of the north. We will cross several Berber villages and nomads that live in the Middle Atlas.

Most of the inhabitants in this part of the country rely on agriculture and bred. Thanks to the weather, environment and fertile land. 

Afterwards, we will start the drive through the Cedar Forest. It is the largest forest in the country and home for Morocco’s wildlife. We might spot some monkeys when we stop at the forest to get some fresh air. The Barbary macaque is the type of monkey that lives by groups in this jungle.

Few minutes after, we stop at Switzerland of Morocco, Ifrane city. Unlike any other city in Morocco, Ifrane got an alpine style of architecture and one of the cleanest places in the country. 

Surrounded by cedar and pine trees, the city is a perfect place for Moroccans who travel in the summer looking for places to picnic and escape the hustle and bustle of cities.

Eventually, we drive for one more hour to make it to the historical city of Fes.

The sixth day of our 7 days desert tour itinerary from Marrakech starts after breakfast, you are going to explore the historic ramparts of the Medina of Fes. Also, you will be able to see a panoramic view over the city of Fes.

In the heart of the oldest Medina in Morocco, you will travel back in history and explore different historical sites that Fes has to offer.

You can have lunch in the old Medina. Furthermore, your guide will show you the best restaurants.

After lunch, you are going to resume exploring the fascinating cobbled lanes of Medina. Attarin’s madrasa, the Funduq of Nejarin, and the medieval tannery.

Above all, after an entertaining day, you are going to spend the night at the riad.

In the last day of the tour, our staff will transfer you to the airport in Casablanca, Marrakech, Fes or another accommodation.

The total distance this tour covers is approximately 1100km/680mi, but it is divided into two days with interesting stops all over the road.
The camel trekking experience takes around an hour with a stop for sunset. So, you only need a small bag and a bottle of water because the rest of your luggage will be taken by the camp car straight to the camp.
The camels are treated well as they work mostly an hour a day. They go grazing in the morning and eat hay and alfalfa after they arrive to the camp making sure they get enough rest, food and water. Since most of the camels owners used to be nomads, they love their animals. 
It is always possible to skip camel riding and drive straight to the camp by a 4×4 vehicle.
Standard camps offer basic amenities with communal facilities, while luxury camps provide more personalized service with private tents and bathrooms with enhanced comfort.

Yes, in Merzouga area there is good coverage of signal, so all camps have Wifi. All camps also use power generators which they turn off after all customers sleep. For that reason, it’s wise to schedule your electricity use appropriately.

The best outfit for the camel ride would be pant or long skirts rather than shorts or dresses to protect from the coarse fur of the camel. It is also necessary to put on a scarf or a hat to protect from the sun and possible wind.

No, mostly all camps use water tanks to provide the camp needs of water. You have access to hot water and cold for different uses. Yet, it would be wise to accordingly use the water because all desert areas suffer from drought and lack of rain especially in the recent years

The weather in the desert varies depends on the season. At Summer time, the average temperature is 19C°/66F°. The average temperature in winter is 4C°/39F°. The perfect time for a desert trip is at winter and spring time. Clear skies, no wind and quiet atmosphere can make your stay memorable.
